STEP to STL converter

Use this STEP file to STL converter online when a slicer or mesh application needs triangles instead of CAD surfaces. The tool accepts STEP and STP data, applies your chosen tessellation tolerance and exports millimeter-sized coordinates.

How to convert your file

01

Choose your file

Select a supported file from your device. Check the format and size limits.

02

Review your settings

Choose the right mode, scale and detail. Processing runs in your browser.

03

Inspect and download

Rotate the preview, save the output and verify it in your next application.

How to convert STEP to STL

Choose your STEP or STP file, leave STL as the output format and start with the Fine tolerance of 0.05 mm. Convert, rotate the gray preview and inspect the dimensions before saving. The first conversion also downloads the CAD engine, so it can take longer to begin.

To convert .step to .stl, the engine reads the CAD geometry and approximates its surfaces with triangles. The same operation converts an STP file to STL: .step and .stp are alternative filename extensions for STEP data. Renaming the file does not perform a conversion.

How to convert .stp to .stl

Select the original .stp file in the same upload area. This .stp to .stl converter uses the selected tolerance and the same surface-tessellation process as a .step input. Review the result at the intended size, then download the STL.

An STP to STL conversion can contain several disconnected shells when the source contains separate bodies. Check their relative positions in the preview; sharing one STL does not perform a Boolean union.

Choose useful detail when converting STEP to STL

A smaller tolerance can improve curved silhouettes while increasing the triangle count. Compare a hole, fillet or rounded edge at the final size. The best STEP to STL converter for a particular job is one whose result preserves the features that matter; a larger download alone does not prove better accuracy.

The available linear tolerances are 0.02, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.5 mm. Angular deflection is 0.1 radians. These are tessellation settings, not a guarantee of physical print accuracy. The STL keeps the surface mesh, while exact CAD surfaces, colors and design history are lost.

Convert a STEP file to STL without an installer

Use the STEP to STL converter online free of charge, one file at a time. Processing runs on your device after the page and CAD engine load. There is no separate STEP to STL converter download or account to set up; download refers to the converted model.

The STEP input limit is 20 MB, processing stops after 90 seconds and output is capped at 1.2 million triangles. For a large assembly, isolate the required bodies or simplify unnecessary details in CAD. Import the resulting STL as millimeters and check a known measurement in your slicer.

Use STP to STL online with practical device limits

No STP to STL converter software needs to be installed. The browser loads the CAD engine for the conversion, while your model is processed on your device. Available memory and the complexity of the surfaces can limit a conversion even when the file fits the 20 MB input allowance.

Before you convert STEP into STL, remove irrelevant assembly parts in the source CAD application. Preserve the STEP source for later dimension changes; the downloaded STL cannot retain its editable features.

Processing limits

STEP input: 20 MB. STL, OBJ and 3MF input: 50 MB. Output is limited to 1.2 million triangles. Complex models may need simplification in the source application.

One file at a time. Processing stops after 90 seconds. Files remain in browser memory, and no conversion upload is performed. Replacing a file clears the previous result. Closing the tab releases its working data.
